Arab Donor Visibility Coordinator, Jerusalem


CONSULTANCY - TERMS OF REFERENCE
UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.
Arab Donor Visibility Coordinator, Jerusalem
BACKGROUND
The UNRWA communications division HQ acts as the executive for all Agency-wide communications. The division directs and is responsible for UNRWA public relations at a global and regional level.
A confident writer with real attention to detail, you will ensure that UNRWA communication materials designed to provide visibility to the Agency’s Arab country donors are produced in high-quality, relevant and on-brand.
The Arab Donor Visibility Coordinator works under the overall supervision of the UNRWA Director of Strategic Communications and Arabic Spokesperson and in close coordination with the Arab Partners Unit team.
The post will be based at UNRWA offices in East Jerusalem.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
Working under the supervision of the Arabic Spokesperson and Director of Communications in the Communication Division, the consultant will:
  • Develop and implement, and oversee along with Arabic spokesperson overall Arab donor visibility plan; as per visibility plans presented to donors, or otherwise;
  • Coordinate and monitor Arab donors visibility work throughout UNRWA’s field offices;
  • Research, write and edit all Arab donor-related visibility materials for the UNRWA website and other social media platforms, including press releases;
  • Propose creative online visibility activities throughout the Arab world, as well as films;
  • Oversee donor visibility events as stipulated in visibility plans, Provide support with signing ceremonies, press conferences, and additional donor-related events;
  • Assist the Arab Partners Unit in research, writing and editing of marketing materials for Arab donors, in coordination with the UNRWA Publications and Branding Coordinator;
  • Support Arabic SPK with media outreach in the Arab world to propagate Arab donor visibility;
  • Follow up on the development of films to promote Arab donor contributions;
  • Support the UNRWA Arabic social-media presence introducing relevant visibility postings (shared task).
minimum Qualifications and Experience
· A university degree (Bachelor) from an accredited educational institution in International Relations, Middle East studies or any related field.
· Relevant work experience in Donor Relations, Donor Visibility, Gulf states;
· Mother-tongue level written and spoken Arabic;
· Excellent copy-editing skills and meticulous attention to detail;
· Extensive proven experience of writing for a range of audiences;
· Strong all-round computer skills;
· Strong knowledge of written and spoken English.
dESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
· Adobe In Design/Illustrator/Photoshop;
· Solid understanding of social media;
· Experience in producing publications from editing to print stage;
· Demonstrable knowledge of branding best practice;
· Experience in monitoring and evaluation.
COMPETENCIES
· Strong organizational skills (ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks);
· Highly motivated, comfortable taking initiative and able to work with minimum supervision;
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
· Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural setting;
· Displays good judgment to political and cultural sensitivities.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
· The duration of the consultancy which is based in Jerusalem, is for 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to initial three-month probationary period, and an expected start date of 21 May 2018;
· Monthly remuneration starts at a rate of US $4,500;
· Willingness to travel to UNRWA fields of operations.
